Cultural Excursions

From the Literacy project to Cultural Excursions one

Sortie Culturelle au Château de Versailles

Initially volunteering to run literacy courses for migrants and refugees, we soon realized the difficulty and investment required. So we reviewed our objectives.

Since integrating a new country requires not only a good command of the language, but also an understanding of its culture, we started organizing cultural outings for the association's learners in collaboration with « Réseau Chrétien - Immigrés » (or RCI). These learners are political refugees or migrants.

This first year, five outings were organized.
On the first, we took a dozen learners to see the Christmas markets around Châtelet and the Île de la Cité.
On the second, we strolled from the Hôtel de Ville to the Jardin des Tuileries passing by the Louvre, telling the stories of the different bridges and buildings.
The next took place in the Basilique Saint-Denis. The Ornatus girls, with whom we organize the outings, had prepared a beautiful guided tour.
The final outing took place in the grounds of the Château de Versailles.

Smiles, kindness and human warmth are the order of the day. Between 10 and 15 learners take part in each outing. The time spent walking and the regularity of the outings enable us to forge a bond with them.
