A Rice Bowl Operation organized with the school chaplaincy

Le stand du Bol de Riz Solidaire 2018, sur le campus de Notre-Dame-de-Lorette de l'ISEP

For this wonderful project launched by the school's chaplaincy, booths were set up on the NDC and NDL campuses on Wednesday March 28 between 12pm and 2pm. Isépiens could buy their meal, consisting of a « rice-box » and an apple, making a donation to the association « Aux Captifs, la libération ».
The operation was a success, raising over 350€, which will be donated to the association to help the homeless. Thanks to all the Isépiens who took part!

Why a bowl of rice?

Rice is a universal food that is eaten all over the world, especially in poor countries where it is a staple. So, for those taking part in this operation, eating rice is a way of symbolically getting closer to others, of showing solidarity. It's a way of realizing that, for many children, this bowl of rice is all too often their only daily food, and that not all children in the world have enough to eat.
The Rice Bowl is a reminder of all this, a small renunciation of our usual comforts, a privileged time when we live and share, albeit very symbolically, the same life.

What is « Aux Captifs, la libération »?

Every day on the street or in the subway, we come across street people, and we are often at a loss: what can we do to help them?
« Aux Captifs, la libération » is a humanitarian association serving people living in the street and people in prostitution situations, with a triple vocation: to meet, accompany and reveal.
Founded in 1981 by Father Giros, the Paris-based charity helps excluded people living on or off the streets: the homeless, prostitutes, migrants, young people on the move, drug and alcohol victims.
It organizes social actions:

  • Street rounds (marauding)
  • Drop-in services
  • Social support and follow-up
  • Revitalization programs
  • Assistance in getting off alcohol
  • Pre-employment programs
  • Referral to accommodation
